- Story Text: Models showing the new Fall/Winter lines of popular local brands Garza Lobos, Uma and Rapsodia paraded through fashion fans on the third night of Buenos Aires Fashion Week on Thursday (February 25).
Make-up artists and hairdressers worked in dressing rooms at a convention center in the Buenos Aires' trendy Palermo neighborhood to get models ready for the catwalk that snaked through onlookers.
The Garza Lobos brought natural, hanging dresses with flowing creases, with models sporting ankle-high leather boots.
Garza Lobos designer Ruben Troilo said the organic look of the dresses came about because designers retained swathes of fabrics from Patagonia camelids.
"There are camelid fabrics, from huanacos, from llamas. They are very sophisticated. Our job is to put them together in the best way possible but we don't like to intervene too much with fabric. We try not to cut it or do other things that would damage it," Triolo said.
Uma's new collection was next on the catwalk, with knitted wool hats and scarves over light blouses. Models also sported leather handbags with animal print flaps.
Next up was Rapsodia, whose marketing director Pilar Rodriguez Varela said designers were inspired by Russian gypsies to put together a festive and varied line.
"Our inspiration is in those Russian gypsies, the nomads that travel the world with their dresses and light fabrics, with prints that go from ethnic to flowers, big flowers and small flowers. We have a lot of leather, a lot of fur, a lot of heavy winter coats. The color camel plays an important role in this years collection. It's the new black because it goes with everything. It's present in shoes as well as clothing like coats and vests," she said.
Using light browns as the base, Rapsodia mixed colorful, layered fabrics while mixing in wool, leather, and silks.
