- Story Text: The tenth edition of Colombia's fashion week kicked off on Wednesday (April 13) night as local and international designers showcased their latest winter creations.
Renowned Spanish designer Adolfo Dominguez opened the first night of parades with a colorful collection inspired by illustrations of his 25-year-old daughter Tiziana.
Dominguez, who owns 150 stores in Latin America, took a mix of fancy fabrics and gaudy patterns onto the catwalk.
The Spanish designer launched his label in 1973 and found widespread recognition dressing the stars of the 1980s landmark TV show Miami Vice. After his participation in the series, Dominguez' international career sky-rocketed and he became the first Spanish designer to open his own brand name store in Madrid.
Domingiuez said his brand's target was mainly people with a creative and artistic background.
"Our clients are mainly architects, musicians, university professors, advertisers...very creative people. This is our target throughout the entire world, including Bogota," he said.
His daughter Tiziana, whom he has described as his natural successor, said her ant illustrations served as an inspiration to her father's latest collection.
"Very vivid colors, fluorescent colors and several ants; ants that I paint over scarves in my studio and which have climbed up to this collection to form patterns and jewelry," she said.
Colombian designer Monica Holguin, who inherited the brand by her mother designer Pepa Pombo, was also one of the night's highlights.
Her parade also featured colorful outfits in a collection inspired by flowers and gardens.
Colombia's fashion week will run through the weekend at the Salon de la Moda trade fair. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
