- Story Text:Exiled Tibetans from India's hill town of Dharamsala on Tuesday (March 11), rejected Beijing's assertion that the Dalai Lama's successor will be chosen by China.
The statement came after the spiritual leader mentioned about his future successor in a new book. Therefore, China on Tuesday (March 11) insisted that the Dalai Lama, 'should abide by the laws and regulations of the state' on the matter.
China brands the Dalai Lama, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for keeping alive the Tibetan cause, as a "separatist".
Furious over Beijing's remarks, spokesperson of the Tibetan government-in-exile, said 'China should understand and know that His Holiness is the only legitimate soul who can decide upon where he should be born in his next life'.
The Dalai Lama's book marks his first time to specify that his successor would be born in the "free world", which is outside China. Previously, he only talked about reincarnating outside Tibet, possibly in India where he lives in exile. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
