- Story Text:Some of the last remaining hostages who had been held captive by Pakistani separatist militants since Tuesday’s (March 11) train attack arrived in Mach in the early hours of Thursday (March 13).
Pakistani security forces on Wednesday (March 12) stormed the train that had been hijacked by the Baloch militant group, killing all 33 attackers and ending a day-long stand-off, the military said, adding that 21 hostages and four security troops were killed over the course of the operation.
The hostages freed during the operation arrived to the town of Mach early on Thursday where they boarded buses and were transported under tight security to Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan province.
The Baloch Liberation Army, which claimed the attack, blew up the railway track on Tuesday and hurled rockets at the Jaffar Express when it was on its way to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from Balochistan's capital of Quetta, carrying 440 people.
At least 155 people were freed on Wednesday and arrived to Quetta station where anxious relatives were waiting. The number of hostages rescued alive overnight on Wednesday was not yet released by authorities.
