  • Story Text:"Ted Lasso" co-stars and friends Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple have been named the first UK duo for "Barbie Role Models" by U.S. toymaker Mattel, ahead of International Women's Day on Saturday (March 8).
    "One of the greatest tools that a girl can have is the support and encouragement of her peers," said Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls, Mattel, in a statement.
    "As we approach International Women’s Day, Barbie is proud to honour legendary female friendship duos across different backgrounds, professions, and parts of the world. We know firsthand that friendships formed at a young age can help fuel social and professional growth, setting girls up for limitless possibilities," she said.
    When asked about being part of the Barbie series with her friend, Waddingham said: "The whole Barbie role model lineup is such an extraordinary group of women. To be part of that is incredible and the fact that it's with Juno celebrating our friendship, our deep seated friendship for International Women's Day. It couldn’t have been with anybody else."
    Waddingham's doll was inspired by her 2024 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards' appearance, where she wore a red Tony Ward couture gown.
    Temple's Barbie was inspired by her 2024 Emmy Awards outfit, where she wore an orange vintage Roberto Cavalli dress, complete with a tiger-shaped clutch.
    Other global star friendship duos included in this year's "Barbie Role Models" are US gold medallists and gymnasts Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey, Australian tennis players Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Ash Barty and Brazilian disability activists Paola Antonini and Kelen Ferreira.
