- Story Text: U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet spoken with Canada's incoming prime minister Mark Carney, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday (March 11), after Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on steel and aluminum from Canada.
Leavitt said Trump's phone was always open to leaders who wished to speak with him.
She said Trump raised the tariffs on Canadian metals after Ontario Premier Doug Ford imposed a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to the United States. "It was a retaliatory statement due to the escalation of rhetoric that we've seen out of Ontario, Canada." she said.
