- Story Text: Controlling and implementing a potential ceasefire with Russia would be difficult, a Ukrainian lawmaker said on Wednesday (March 12).
Ukrainian lawmaker and former special forces officer, Roman Kostenko, said he was sceptical regarding the feasibility of a potential ceasefire, citing significant challenges in its implementation and monitoring.
"We don't understand the format of the potential ceasefire," Kostenko said. "If we are talking about the entire front line, to cease hostilities completely for 30 days, then this is a very difficult plan and a difficult goal to achieve, because it is very difficult to monitor."
He also pointed out the risks of Ukrainian personnel becoming lax during a potential ceasefire, which could be used by Russia to continue fighting.
The Kremlin said on Wednesday (March 12) it was awaiting details from Washington about a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, while senior Moscow sources said a deal would have to take account of Russia's advances and address its concerns.
