- Story Text:Colombians gathered on Friday (March 14) at the Planetarium to observe a total lunar eclipse, the first since 2022, according to NASA's data.
Observers peered into telescopes and used phone apps to track the progress of the eclipse as it entered into the totality phase.
The lunar eclipse happens when the Sun, Earth and Moon align such that the Moon passes into the Earth’s shadow. While the eclipse lasts roughly six hours, the totality period where the Moon is completely in the Earth’s shadow, lasts over just an hour.
According to NASA, the next total lunar eclipse will fall on September 7, 2025.
