  • Story Text: American campaigners in Ukraine said on Friday (March 14) they were hopeful ongoing peace negotiations could lead to a ceasefire in Ukraine, though all did not approve of their country's strategy.
    While some praised U.S. President Donald Trump's strongman stance, others doubted his action would be decisive, with one volunteer saying he was 'not happy' with the way Trump dealt with Russia.
    "It's going to take a long time for all that to happen," American volunteer based in Ukraine Jeff Pagels said, at a memorial ceremony for American fighters killed alongside Ukrainian troops.
    "If Trump, just by being Trump, makes them do what they should have been doing anyway for years, great.”
    Donald Trump is urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a ceasefire proposal that Washington negotiated with Ukraine.
    Putin on Thursday welcomed the plan in principle but laid out a list of conditions, suggesting there would be no rapid agreement from Moscow, and prompting skepticism in Kyiv.
