- Story Text: Protesters gathering for a mass protest in central Belgrade on Saturday (March 15) said they hoped violence would not break out at the demonstrations after Serbia's president warned troublemakers would be arrested.
People gathering near Serbia's parliament rejected the idea the student-led protests would be the source of any violence.
"I think that tensions and problems will not arise unless the regime provokes it", said protester Bojan Popovic, while another, Nikola Djukic, said he expected the demonstration to be peaceful.
Authorities expect anywhere between 60,000 and 80,000 protesters to arrive to the capital, President Aleksandar Vucic said. Organisers say they expect many more, in rallies expected to be the biggest Serbia has seen in decades.
Near daily student protests began in December following the deaths of 15 people when a roof at a railway station collapsed on Nov. 1 in the northern city of Novi Sad, a disaster opponents blame on corruption under Vucic.
