- Story Text: Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko laid a wreath at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier near Kremlin Wall on Friday (March 14) on the second day of his visit to Moscow.
This is his first foreign trip after winning the seventh presidential term in uncontested election last January. Lukashenko, closest ally of Vladimir Putin, holds his post since 1994, six years longer than his Russian counterpart whom he met for talks on Thursday (March 13).
The two presidents said in a joint statement following talks on Thursday that NATO's actions in the context of the conflict in Ukraine were fraught with the risk of nuclear conflict.
Russia and Belarus condemned in the statement the European Union's policy towards Russia, calling it aggressive and confrontational.
Lukashenko also made a speech at the Federation Council, the upper chamber of the Russian parliament and met with its chairwoman, Valentina Matvienko. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
