- Story Text: Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti on Friday (March 15) refused to be drawn into the controversy around his side's Champions League defeat of city rivals Atletico.
UEFA said the correct decision was made to disallow Julian Alvarez's penalty in Atletico Madrid's Champions League loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday but European soccer's governing body would enter discussions to review the rule.
Alvarez slipped and accidentally made contact with the ball twice as he scored in the shoot out.
“For us the match is over. We are happy to be in the quarter-finals, everything that happens around this match we are focused on the next match,” Ancelotti told reporters after a training session ahead of a LaLiga clash against Villarreal
He added: “I have no idea what I would do because I am not in that position. There is this rule and until there is this rule you have to respect it."
Only one point separates Spain's three biggest clubs in one of the closest title races in recent years with Barcelona leading the pack on 57 points, ahead of second-placed Real on goal difference with Atletico Madrid in third on 56 points.
