- Story Text: A proposal of ceasefire in Ukraine "risks rewarding Russia," an analyst told Reuters on Wednesday (March 12).
The United States agreed on Tuesday (March 11) to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine after Kyiv said it was ready to support Washington's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, the countries said in a joint statement.
The Kremlin said it was awaiting details from Washington on the ceasefire proposal.
"Putting in place a cementing of the front lines in their current position without any long term guarantee of ensuring that the war will actually come to an end risks rewarding Russia by making the current zone of control permanent and freezing the conflict in place as opposed to resolving it," Keir Giles, a Senior Consulting Fellow for Russia and Eurasia Programme, said.
Reuters reported in November that Putin was ready to negotiate a deal with Trump, but would refuse to make major territorial concessions and would insist Kyiv abandon ambitions to join NATO.
