- Story Text:Residents of the Codavisa neighborhood in Bolivia’s capital of La Paz tried to salvage their belongings and pets from their wrecked homes on Tuesday (March 11) after a landslide struck on Monday (March 10).
Affected residents dragged belongings ranging from personal objects to corrugated iron sheets through the cracked streets.
The disaster was caused by rainfall from this and previous years which had saturated the soil, authorities said.
In the midst of the destruction, many pets were left behind, so the mayor's office of La Paz began the recovery of pets to take them to temporary shelters until their owners can return for them.
A little further away from the Codavisa neighborhood, in Chasquipampa, on Tuesday another landslide caused the death of a person, leaving his house destroyed and triggering the rescue of the body that was left in the rubble.
