- Story Text: Children as young as seven showcased their skills and talent in reciting the Koran, preaching and delivering the Islamic call to prayer in a competition held in the Libyan city of Misrata.
‘The Young Preacher and Muezzin’ competition, which was judged by a panel of religious scholars, featured three main categories: Koranic memorization and recitation, best young preacher and best young muezzin, who calls Muslims to prayer.
A total of 22 children took part in the competition for the best preacher and best muezzin.
“Honestly, what I witnessed was truly amazing. My God, it gives you goosebumps,” said Farag Abu Awad, one of the parents at the event.
The competition was organized by the Libyan Youth Hostels Association, a non-governmental institution dedicated to supporting youth.
Similar competitions were held in different cities cross Libya. At the end of Ramadan, three winners will be selected, who will receive a cash prize.
