  • Story Text: Algiers Municipality organised on Friday (March 14) a communal Iftar along the city's main downtown avenue, bringing together people to share a meal and break their fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
    Head of Algiers municipality Mahdia Benghalia said the event aimed to bring together all segments of society around traditional dishes.
    "This is the flavour of Ramadan, because Ramadan is characterised by spiritual atmospheres as well as traditional dishes," she added.
    The mega Iftar relied on volunteers, including chefs who said they served 2,000 meals to attendees.
    “Events like these remind us of the importance of community and may even inspire people to come together more often," one volunteer chef Nisrine said, while serving soup.
