- Story Text: Hindus across India celebrated Holi - the festival of colours on Friday (March 14) as they smeared coloured powder at each other while dancing to upbeat songs.
”The atmosphere is magnificent. The Holi which is celebrated here is world famous. People from across India are coming here to celebrate Holi and I am feeling very happy and loving it,” said devotee Chandrabhan Patel during the festivities in northern Mathura.
In Varanasi, hundreds of people congregated on the streets and threw coloured powder into the air, while young children got into the festivities in Tiruchirappalli.
Holi heralds the beginning of spring and is celebrated across India along with other South Asian countries. For festival goers, it also represents a time of forgiveness, renewed friendship and the triumph of good over evil.
