Funeral prayers were held on Thursday (March 13) for two railway policemen killed in a train hijack ordeal.
The prayers for Railway Policeman Shamroz Khan and employee Mumtaz Gujjar, took place at the Quetta Railway Hockey Ground, attended by senior railway officials, law enforcement personnel, and relatives of the victims.
Shamroz Khan was laid to rest at the Quetta Railway Cemetery, while the body of Mumtaz Gujjar will be transported to his native place in Mansehra, Northwest of Pakistan for burial.
The two men were among several people killed when militants hijacked a train in southwestern Pakistan on Tuesday (March 11), sparking a standoff with security forces that ended in a shootout.
The Jaffar Express was heading to the city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, with 425 people on board when it was attacked.
Militants blew up the railway tracks and opened fire on the train, killing the driver and trapping the locomotive inside a tunnel before taking control of it.
A total of 21 hostages and four security troops were killed in the standoff, according to the military, but the BLA - the largest of Balochistan's armed ethnic groups battling the government - said 50 hostages were executed.
The ordeal ended after security stormed the besieged train and killed all 33 attackers on Wednesday (March 12).
