- Story Text:People in Gaza and in Amman gathered for Iftar meals on Tuesday (March 11), organised by Tkiyet Um Ali, a food relief Jordanian non-governmental organization.
Tkiyet Um Ali which was founded in 2003, has assisted Palestinians in Gaza since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas, delivering around seventy thousand food parcels and forty thousand jackets, according to the organization’s director general, Samer Balkar.
"We also set up Mawaed al-Rahman (charity tables) in Jabalia and in Shujaiya, and at a rate of approximately one thousand to two thousand Iftar meals per day, specifically in northern Gaza," Balkar added.
Footage provided by the organization showed volunteers distributing meals to families in an area surrounded by tents in Jabalia, while traditional songs were performed.
Reuters could verify the location and date of videos from metadata of original files.
Balkar said that the organization prepared 15 trucks for Gaza and sent them out for the month of Ramadan.
"Through them, we are preparing meals for Gaza. And whatever is not available, we contract with the local market in Gaza for deficiencies, despite its limited supply and scarcity, but most of the items we send out are the ones we supply", said Balkar.
Israel cut aid flows of food, medicine and fuel imports earlier this month, a move it said was designed to pressure militant group Hamas in ceasefire talks.
In parallel to Gaza, Tkiyet Um Ali also hosts charitable Iftar meals in Jordan.
On Tuesday, the charity organization hosted an Iftar in Amman, providing free meals for those in need, in a Ramadan tent which can accommodate up to 5,000 people, organisers said.
