Indian police on Wednesday (March 19) cleared the protest site at Punjab and Haryana state borders, where farmer groups have been protesting for months.
Police personnel detained some protesters as they demolished makeshift structures at the protest site.
"Police have removed farmers who had been protesting at 'Shambhu' border for some time in the presence of Duty Magistrates. Everything has been cleared after proper warning was given to them," said a senior police official.
According to local media reports, farmer leaders had been detained prior to the police action.
The farmers are demanding legal guarantees of more state support for crops and a debt waiver, and say the government must honour a promise to double their incomes.
