- Story Text: Relatives, friends, and colleagues of the Argentine photojournalist injured during clashes between the riot police and protesters last week gathered on Tuesday (March 18) outside the hospital where he’s being treated, with signs of mild recovery.
Photojournalist Pablo Grillo was struck in the head by a police tear gas canister during a pensioner protest in Buenos Aires that was joined by soccer hooligan groups on March 12. Grillo was rushed to the hospital shortly afterward, where doctors determined he had a skull fracture and loss of brain mass.
Grillo’s father, Fabian, told the media the 35-year-old is responding to stimuli after sedation, although the case is still serious. Photographers holding their cameras up, as well as supporters, also turned up to show their support.
The Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, has defended the Argentine police measures as adhering to the protocols.
A new retirees' protest is scheduled for Wednesday (March 19) in front of Congress. Several unions have announced they will join the protest. Soccer ultra groups have not confirmed their attendance, according to local media.
