- Story Text: Destroyed solar panels lay strewn across the remains of a rooftop on Wednesday (March 19) as the family of Tetiana Polishko and Viktor Sheludko sought to salvage what they could following a Russian attack earlier in the week.
Having suffered blackouts, caused by Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the family decided to install solar panels on their vacation house which is located in a village some 25 kilometres from Odesa.
“As soon as he (her husband) finished installing, there was a hit late on Sunday (March 16). Everything was blown up and destroyed," Tetiana Polishko said standing in front of her damaged house.
Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on Tuesday to a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump for Russia and Ukraine to stop hitting each other's energy infrastructure for 30 days and gave a corresponding order to the Russian military, the Kremlin said.
“They can’t be trusted. They don’t want to make a deal,” Polishko told Reuters.
Ukraine's energy infrastructure has been the target of large-scale attacks since Russia's invasion in 2022, resulting in blackouts and freezing conditions for millions of people.
