Activists protested against an immigration policy event featuring Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former DHS Acting Secretary Chad Wolf, and former ICE Director Tom Homan in Sarasota, Florida, on Thursday (March 20).
Equipped with banners reading "No human is illegal," "We are all immigrants," and "Bring down Trump," the protesters gathered along a street near the entrance of New College, where the event was held.
The protesters also held signs showing the portrait of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and Columbia University graduate student detained by U.S. immigration authorities.
Republican President Donald Trump seeks to ramp up a wide-ranging immigration crackdown in a bid to reduce illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border and deport millions of immigrants.
