- Story Text: Israelis took to the streets on Thursday (March 20) calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to agree to a hostage deal and a ceasefire in Gaza.
Protesters gathered outside Netanyahu's residence before marching to the prime minister's office located in central Jerusalem. The families of hostages and supporters also gathered for a sing-along event in Safra Square.
Netanyahu's decision to resume the Gaza war on Tuesday (March 18), with 59 hostages - around 24 of whom are believed to be alive - still held inside the enclave, has added fresh momentum to anti-government rallies with protesters accusing his administration of continuing the conflict for political reasons.
Anger mounted after Netanyahu announced over the weekend that he had decided to sack Ronen Bar, the head of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency.
At least 91 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded in airstrikes across Gaza on Thursday after Israel resumed bombing and ground operations, the enclave's health ministry said, effectively ditching a two-month-old ceasefire.
Tuesday's first day of resumed airstrikes killed more than 400 Palestinians, one of the deadliest days of the 17-month-old conflict, with scant let-up since then.
