- Story Text: Thousands of Muslims rallied in Bangladesh's capital on Friday (March 21), protesting against recent Israeli airstrikes in Gaza that killed hundreds, including many children.
Following Jummah prayers at the central Baitul Mukarram mosque in Dhaka, protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans condemning the attacks. While thousands participated and marched in multiple rallies, many others remained seated on the mosque’s exterior staircases with banners, flags and placards.
“We want only one thing from the UN and the top world leaders: please stop the brutal genocide in Palestine. We strongly urge you to act on it,” said Nur Ahmed.
After two months of relative calm, Tuesday's (March 18) first day of resumed airstrikes killed more than 400 Palestinians, one of the deadliest days of the 17-month-old conflict, with scant let-up since then.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Friday the army was intensifying strikes from the air, land and sea in Gaza to pressure Hamas into freeing remaining hostages, and would also evacuate civilians to the south of the enclave.
