  • Story Text: Outgoing International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach had a lighter moment during his press conference on Friday (March 21) where he spoke about his retirement plans.
    Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe emerged victorious to replace Thomas Bach, smashing the International Olympic Committee’s glass ceiling on Thursday (March 20) to become the organisation’s first female and first African president in its 130-year history.
    Speaking to reporters, Bach elaborated on his most immediate plan to attend the Champions League finals on May 31 at the Munich Football Arena, hoping that Bayern Munich wins. He also joked about Real Madrid not making it into the finals.
    When asked about which sport he would consider playing for leisure post his tenure, Bach said it was hard for him to play any sport for pleasure as he is too competitive and went on to pick golf as the sport he would be interested in taking up post-retirement.
    Bach, a German lawyer and former Olympic fencing champion, took over in 2013 and will step down in June after 12 years in charge.
