- Story Text:Mutasem Staiti didn't think he would spend the holy month of Ramadan away from his home in Jenin refugee camp, and not in s house still under construction.
But since an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank which began in January, the 41-year-old father, his two wives and his seven children have been internally displaced to a nearby neighbourhood in Jenin, to a house that doesn't even have windows.
"Ramadan this year is different, it's not like the previous Ramadan. We used to have stability and sit in our house for Iftar, staying here is not easy," he said on Thursday (March 20).
Staiti raises goats, and also gave them a room in the new home.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled their homes since the West Bank operation began earlier this year.
Troops have swept through refugee camps in Jenin and nearby cities, demolishing houses and infrastructure, including roads and water pipes.
Staiti said that his home was demolished and furniture was burnt.
Israel says the West Bank operation is aimed at hitting Iranian-backed militant groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, that have made strongholds of the crowded townships built to house descendants of Palestinians who fled, or were forced from their homes in the 1948 Middle East war.
