- Story Text: Ukraine does not consider a U.N. mission as an alternative to the deployment of a contingent of foreign troops or security guarantees to end the war with Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in Kyiv on Friday (March 21).
He was speaking at a joint news conference with Czech President Petr Pavel in Kyiv.
A day earlier, Pavel, a vocal backer of Ukraine who has led an effort to source more than one million artillery shells for its war effort, was in the port city Odesa for talks with regional officials when drones struck the city.
The attack came as the United States is pushing for a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, and hoping to agree on a partial ceasefire that would halt strikes on energy infrastructure by both sides.
"One has to be truly cynical when declaring will to have a peace negations or negotiations on ceasefire and at the same time to launch a massive attack on civilian infrastructure," Pavel said.
The long-range drones buzzed into the city in several waves, damaging infrastructure, residential houses and commercial buildings, and causing multiple fires, the interior ministry said.
