- Story Text:Drone footage from India's Punjab-Haryana border on Friday (March 21) showed traffic moving on roads which were previously blocked by camps set up by protesting farmers.
Traffic movement resumed in the area after Indian police on Thursday (March 20) used bulldozers to tear down the protest sites where farmers had been staging demonstrations for more than a year to demand better crop prices.
Drone footage also showed a small group of farmers gathered near the security personnel on guard.
Some farmers who were not detained by the police, promised to not move anywhere else and stay at the protest site until further action was taken by the government, on Thursday (March 20).
The farmers had camped on the border since last February. Punjab's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which authorized the eviction, said it stood by the farmers in their demands, but asked them to take up their grievances with the federal government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government was forced to repeal some farm laws in 2021 after a year-long protest by farmers when they camped outside Delhi for months. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
