  • Story Text: French director, Thierry Fremaux, on Monday (March 24) presented his new film celebrating the 130th anniversary of cinema with “Lumiere! The Adventure Continues,” which assembles nearly 100 short films by the pioneer of cinema.
    "It's a style of cinema that is both naturalistic and beautiful because the cinema of Lumiere means writing with the camera", Fremaux, who is also the director of the Cannes Film Festival, said during a news conference in Rome.
    The film, in which Fremaux offered his voice as narrator, was composed of 50-second clips that, in Fremaux's words, "exist through the gesture of cinema, through the camera," making Lumiere a total filmmaker."
    In a world completely different from that of the French filmmaker, now dominated by streaming services, Fremaux was not afraid of the declining numbers of cinema-goers.
    "The death of cinema was announced in the 50s with television, in the 80s with video, with cable channels, with the Internet, and with the platforms, we're still there today," Fremaux said.
    "The desire of 130 years ago is the same today, which is to be all together, with someone we don't know to watch together, and that's more important than ever today."
    “Lumiere! The Adventure Continues”, which was released in French cinemas on March 19, will be out in theatres in Italy on April 3.
