  • Story Text: Dancing to the heavy beat of pop music, about 100 people staged a colourful protest against billionaire Elon Musk outside a Tesla dealership in the plush Washington DC neighbourhood of Georgetown – one of several dozen demonstrations advertised in the US, western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
    Passing vehicles in this upmarket and liberal part of the American capital tooted their horns to show support for the protest against the Tesla owner’s influence on the government of President Donald Trump and his drive to dramatically pare back government spending.
    Trump won re-election last year on a programme that included deep cuts to government spending. He has frozen billions of dollars in foreign aid and sacked more than 20,000 federal workers. Tech billionaire Musk says he has cut tens of billions of dollars, a claim some analysts contest.
