- Story Text:The sight of millions of tulips potentially in full bloom drew throngs of tourists to Srinagar’s Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden on Wednesday (March 26) as it opened its doors to the public for the first time this year.
"1.7 million tulips will be on display,” said floriculture officer Javaid Masood, adding that other spring-blooming bulbous plants will also be on display in the gardens.
The beds of tulips, boasting bright colours in full bloom, have become a major tourist attraction, drawing around half a million tourists to the serene gardens last year.
The garden, nestled on the foothills of Zabarawan mountain range with a view of the iconic Dal Lake in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region, is spread over an area of 30 hectares with rows of tulips as far as the eye can see.
