- Story Text: Railway services in India's western Gujarat state were hit on Monday (March 24) as a gantry collapsed on an under-construction proposed bullet railway line.
Locals gathered around the incident spot as a piece of the collapsed gantry was seen with restoration work gathering pace.
"Yesterday (March 23) night, an incident occurred in which the launching girder…the launching beam of our SBS (Span-by-Span), slipped from the girder placed at the top and moved downwards," said Vivek Kumar Gupta, Managing Director at National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited, which is spearheading the project.
At least 22 trains were cancelled and seven rescheduled following the accident.
Indian Railways transports an average of 23 million passengers daily.
