- Story Text:South Korea’s acting President Han Duck-soo on Wednesday (March 26) vowed to mobilise all available support and put all efforts to contain one of the country's worst forest fires in decades.
At least 18 people have died as multiple wildfires rage across South Korea's southeastern region, with thousands of firefighters and helicopters aided by the military and U.S. forces.
The deadly wildfires have forced about 23,000 residents to flee their homes, Han said, as fires razed entire neighbourhoods and closed schools.
The government has designated the affected areas as special disaster zones, and said the fires had damaged more than 15,000 hectares (37,065 acres).
