- Story Text: "Wicked" actor Cynthia Erivo received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 36th GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday (March 27), which is awarded to an LGBTQ+ media professional who has raised visibility and acceptance for the community.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), which is "a non-profit organization focused on LGBTQ+ advocacy", will stream the awards ceremony on streaming platform Hulu on April 12.
Also in attendance was attorney Gloria Allred and American rapper and song writer Lil Nas X.
His biographical documentary "Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero," was nominated for an award.
Nas told Reuters he was excited to be at the award ceremony.
“I think it's very important to just be outside and existing as yourself and giving everybody else, I don't know, the courage to do the same,” he said.
Many of this year’s nominees highlight compelling stories about transgender and nonbinary people.
GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis said these stories are needed to “demystify who this community is.”
