South Korean court on Monday (November 25) is set to deliver a sentence against main opposition leader Lee Jae-myung over charges of suborning perjury, 10 days after he got a suspended prison term for election violations.
Lee, chair of the Democratic Party, is already facing four other trials including for bribery and other charges mostly tied to a $1 billion property development scandal.
His legal battles have cast a cloud over his political fate and could jeopardize his expected bid to contest the next presidential race.
Lee was the Democratic Party's candidate for president in 2022, and he narrowly lost to Yoon Suk Yeol, a career prosecutor. Lee is considered a major contender for the next presidential election in 2027.
