- Story Text: India's weather department on Wednesday (March 26) said that central and western regions of the country may suffer higher number of heatwave days than usual.
"Generally it is five-six days, so we are expecting 10-12 days of heatwave, said Soma Roy, a scientist at the weather office said.
The capital of New Delhi too has been facing elevated temperatures. Umbrellas, sunglasses and more have been providing locals with respite from the harsh afternoon sun.
Tourists thronged the national capital's iconic India Gate war memorial despite elevated temperatures.
"I never expected that it would get this hot now itself….in the coming days, things will get difficult because of the heat," said a local carrying a child in her arms.
According to the weather department, the capital may get succour as north-westerly winds may bring temperatures down in the coming days.
Located in the tropics, most of India witnesses a very hot summer and a largely temperate winter. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
