- Story Text: The Greek prime minister said on Thursday (March 27) pressure must be exerted on Russia to stop military attacks against Ukraine and a ceasefire must be reached as soon as possible.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis made the comments in Paris following a meeting of some 30 leaders with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to discuss how to strengthen Kyiv's position and assess how they could play a role if a peace deal is struck with Russia.
After the meeting, Mitsotakis said Russian attacks needed to stop so that an initial ceasefire can take place and allow time for more permanent peace negotiations afterwards.
He said the position of the Greek government was that the strongest security guarantees for Ukraine was to strengthen the country’s own armed forces, highlighting that Greece was not ready to send its own troops to Ukraine.
