- Story Text:North Korea's airborne early-warning aircraft still requires further evaluation in terms of its operational effectiveness and utility, South Korea's military said on Thursday (March 27).
Earlier in the day, North Korea's state media reported that Kim Jong Un supervised the test of suicide drones with artificial intelligence (AI) technology and said unmanned control and AI capability must be the top priorities in modern arms development. The nuclear-armed North also officially unveiled an airborne early-warning aircraft for the first time, a capability that could improve its ageing air defence systems.
The internal devices and components may have connections to Russia, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff public affairs director Lee Sung-jun said at a briefing on Thursday.
Russia has provided North Korea with anti-air missiles and unspecified air defence equipment, in return for Pyongyang's deployment of troops to help with the Ukraine war, South Korea's national security adviser Shin Won-sik said in November.
