Pope Francis continues his medical treatment as Friday (February 28) marks two weeks since his hospitalisation.
Pope Francis, who is being treated in hospital for double pneumonia, slept well overnight and is resting, the Vatican said in a brief statement on Thursday (February 27).
The 88-year-old pontiff was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital after coming down with a severe respiratory infection that triggered various complications.
The Vatican gave a largely upbeat assessment of his health on Wednesday (February 26) evening, saying there had been a "further, slight improvement" in his condition.
Pope Francis' respiratory tract infection has required a modification of his treatment to tackle a "complex clinical situation" and he will remain in hospital as long as is necessary, the Vatican said earlier on Monday (February 17).
Pope Francis was hospitalised on the morning of Friday February 14 for tests and to continue the treatment of his ongoing bronchitis.
In the week prior to his hospitalisation, Francis told pilgrims at the weekly audience that he was suffering from a "strong cold," which the Vatican later described as bronchitis.
