- Story Text: South Koreans expressed their concerns on Thursday (March 27) that the country’s auto sector and people's daily lives could face difficulties when U.S. import tariffs on cars to take effect.
Kim Sang-soo, a resident in Seoul said, that he believes Korea's investments in the U.S., such as Hyundai's recent announcement, could "further jeopardize South Korea's manufacturing sector, which is already at risk."
Another resident Hyun Sang-jin noted Hyundai Motor's pivotal role in South Korea, and fret that tariffs would deteriorate the quality of life for South Koreans.
The government is planning an emergency response by April when the tariffs on cars are to take effect, the industry minister said on Thursday.
Trump had unveiled a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, expanding a global trade war and prompting criticism and threats of retaliation from affected U.S. allies.
