- Story Text:A search operation took place in Mexico City's Ajusco forest on Tuesday (March 25) for a woman who disappeared in November 2017.
The operation involved civil society members with support from the forensic team and the National Guard.
"This area represents a high risk due to inadequate safety measures," said Mari Carmen Volante, mother of Pamela Gallardo, who disappeared seven years ago after attending an electronic music concert.
Volante criticized President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration for insufficient support to families searching for missing relatives.
During a press conference on Monday (March 24), Sheinbaum emphasized the need for "scientific searches with advanced technology" to provide justice and truth for affected families.
Mexico faces a severe missing persons crisis with 125,287 people currently unaccounted for, according to the Secretariat of the Interior. Approximately 90% of disappearances have occurred since 2006, with over 60,000 cases reported since 2019.
