Thousands of Israeli protesters rallied against the government outside the nation's parliament on Wednesday (March 26) evening, demanding elections and the return of the remaining hostages from Hamas captivity in Gaza.
Former Defence Minister Benny Gantz was seen at the protest and called it a "very important demonstration".
The protest occurred as lawmakers convened in Israel's parliament, known as the Knesset, to discuss a law to change the committee that appoints judges, a measure that could spark a new constitutional crisis and help the government enact policies that have drawn fierce criticism.
It also comes a day after the Knesset gave final approval to the long delayed 2025 state budget in a turbulent session that showed how lawmakers and the country remain divided over the fate of hostages still held in Gaza and the wider political landscape.
Israel's military resumed its campaign against Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza last week, shattering a two-month ceasefire.
The return to fighting has led to mass protests in Israel demanding a return to negotiations to bring back the remaining hostages and bodies.
