- Story Text: Relatives of workers trapped under a collapsed building in Bangkok waited on Monday (March 31) under a white tent set up with makeshift beds and fans, offering respite from the heat and intermittent rain, as the critical 72-hour window to find survivors edges closer.
Local resident Kannika Noommisri, whose husband remains trapped, has made over 100 calls to his phone daily since Friday (March 28) when the under-construction building came down after tremors, from a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, hit the Thai capital.
At least 18 people have been confirmed dead across the city, with 76 still missing beneath the debris, according to officials as of 8:00 a.m. (GMT 0100) on Monday.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said weak life signs had been detected in several areas, and search operations would continue beyond the 72-hour mark with constant adjustments to the rescue plan, as they still believe survivors may be found.
