- Story Text: Thai officials on Monday (March 31) said they were investigating metal and steel parts taken from the quake-hit construction site in Bangkok, after the unfinished 30-storey building collapsed on Friday (March 28).
The media were shown samples cut from a metal strip retrieved from the site being put in a machine that would test its composition. The results of the test, carried out by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute, is expected later in the day, according to Industry Ministry officials, who witnessed the process.
An anti-corruption watchdog had flagged irregularities in the construction of the skyscraper for Thailand's State Audit Office that collapsed and killed at least 19 people, the head of the monitoring group told Reuters.
The government has announced an investigation into the cause of the collapse of the tower, which was being built by a Chinese company and a long-established Thai construction firm.
