- Story Text:With Yankee nation still stewing over the loss to the Dodgers in last October's World Series, fans lined up to enter Yankee Stadium Thursday (March 27) for Opening Day.
Twenty-six teams are marking their Opening Day, the traditional launch of the Major League Baseball season.
For the Yankees, it comes after a 2024 season in which they came up short in the World Series against the Dodgers. That showdown will be remembered for the agonizing parade of defensive breakdowns in the fifth inning of the fifth and final game.
"I think this is a team that comes back this year with a new attitude," said Yankees dan, Colin Loughran. "A loss like that can do wonders for a clubhouse, for camaraderie."
The storied Yankees franchise, which boasts a record 27 World Series championships, still had a productive offseason, signing closer Devin Williams, veteran first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and former Dodger Cody Bellinger.
The Yankees will once again lean on unanimous AL MVP Aaron Judge to power them to the AL East title and beyond.
And while the Dodgers had the best offseason overall, the New York Mets grabbed the single biggest prize, luring four-time All Star Juan Soto from the Yankees on a record 15-year, $765 million contract.
Fans at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx were already moving on.
"We really don't care," said Yankees fan, Steve Colon. "Forget about that guy."
