  • Story Text: A strong earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday (March 28), causing people to evacuate skytrains and buildings in neighbouring Thailand's capital Bangkok.
    Overhanging lights and a train carriage were seen shaking at Bangkok's Phloen Chit BTS Skytrain station as the quake struck.
    Office workers in the Thai capital also gathered under the afternoon sun following the quake, while at least one ambulance crawled through heavy traffic.
    The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was of 7.7 magnitude and at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). It was followed by a powerful aftershock. The epicentre was about 17.2 km (10.6 miles) from the city of Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest, which has a population of about 1.5 million.
