- Story Text: LGBTQ community members held a Pride march on Monday (March 31) to mark 'International Transgender Day of Visibility' in Prayagraj, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Hundreds of participants, adorned in colorful attire, danced to the beats of drums and chanted slogans demanding representation and equal rights.
In 2018, the Supreme Court decriminalized homosexuality but, in 2023, disappointed the LGBTQ+ community by declining to legalize same-sex marriage, leaving the decision to Parliament.
Same-sex relationships remain largely taboo in the predominantly conservative country of 1.42 billion people.
