- Story Text:Cherry blossom season in Japan means one thing: "hanami" — meaning "flower viewing" in Japanese.
Visitors in central Tokyo on Monday (March 31) braved this year's unseasonably cool weather and took their chance to stroll beneath cherry blossom trees in full bloom and take in the scenic view.
The traditional pastime draws crowds to well-known spots where cherry trees grow, including the banks of the Meguro river, which get covered in swathes of pink and white during this period in spring time.
Around 800 trees line a popular stretch of the river, stretching for almost 4 kilometres (2.5 miles).
