- Story Text: On the eve of the vote widely being viewed as the first referendum on the second Trump administration, Wisconsin voters are feeling the glare of the spotlight.
Tuesday's (April 1) contest will determine the ideological tilt of the state's top court as it considers abortion rights, labor rights and possibly election rules.
"I can't do anything without getting bombarded with like three or four different ads," said Wisconsin civil servant, Zach Shea, while riding his bike through Madison. "But it is a super important race even though we're all annoyed."
Liberal Susan Crawford seems to be running ahead of conservative Brad Schimel to win the decisive seat.
And people asked about the race in the liberal stronghold of Madison were generally true to its reputation, highlighting the role of Elon Musk.
"I think it's really important to vote for somebody that isn't bought and sold by the current administration because our government is getting gutted and people need to realize that," said Wisconsin retiree, Jakob Goeller.
Billionaire Musk on Sunday (March 30) handed out million-dollar checks to two voters in Wisconsin and promised smaller payments to others who help elect a conservative candidate to the state's top court in a closely watched election.
